The NAACP Snohomish County and the Coverson family launched KUTZ4KIDZ in 2018 as a resource to support students and families. We partner with local salons and barbershops to provide free haircuts to students who qualify.

‍KUTZ4KIDZ supports families who struggle to put food on the table, let alone have money for even one haircut a year. Disadvantaged students are often bullied for their appearance, leading to lower test scores, low self-esteem, depression, and poor self-image. We want to give these students, both boys and girls, the joy, confidence, and poise that only a fresh haircut can bring.

Today, 24 barbershops and salons stretching from Arlington to Edmonds participate in the ‍KUTZ4KIDZ program, with more joining each year. Qualified students with vouchers can receive services at any of these participating locations, giving families both flexibility and access across Snohomish County.

Who Qualifies?

K–12 students who meet any of the following criteria:

• Experiencing homelessness

• Living in low-income households

• Eligible for free or reduced-price meals

The program primarily serves African American youth but is open to all economically challenged students across our partner districts.

We currently serve students from the following districts:
‍Edmonds, Everett, Lake Stevens, Marysville, Monroe, Mukilteo, Snohomish, and Sultan.

If your child attends one of the listed school districts and meets the criteria, contact your school’s administration, counselor, or community liaison for a haircut or salon voucher. Call ahead to the barbershop or salon to make an appointment or ask about walk-in availability. You must bring the voucher to receive service.
